Creative Expressions is the follow-up program to the Educational Performances. To ensure that the arts education experience is well- rounded, the FRIENDS encourages students to develop their own unique creative abilities by directly participating in the arts once they return to their classrooms.

How?
Creative Expressions projects may take the form of a drawing capturing the essence of a performance, a well-articulated letter or essay demonstrating an age-appropriate understanding of what took place on stage, a script for a sequel to a story, a student produced video, a poem, a meaningful classroom discussion, or a project of your own creation. The FRIENDS facilitates this process by providing guidance and support for teachers through professional development workshops.

Creative Expressions Awards – Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Cerritos Center

The FRIENDS highlights the most outstanding student work at the Creative Expressions awards ceremony that takes place at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Teachers are invited to submit individual student work or classroom projects for the Creative Expressions Awards program. Should teachers choose to keep their students’ Creative Expressions projects at school, they may submit a photograph or a written account of the projects. Artwork is considered in two categories – individual artwork and classroom projects – in each grade in mainstream education and special education.

Each submission must include the participant's first and last name, teacher's name, grade level, school name, district, and a reference to the Educational Performances attended. All entries will become the sole property of the Friends of Arts Education at the Cerritos Center and will not be returned.
