The FRIENDS Artists in the Classroom program is
designed to provide a one-day, well-rounded and meaningful
arts experience on school sites. Offered in dance,
music, and theater, Artists in the Classroom include
performance excerpts, workshops for students led
by professional artists, and support materials for
teachers.
A typical Artists in the Classroom day begins with
the classrooms scheduled to take part in the workshops
(usually three to four) assembling to attend a twenty
to thirty minute performance by the featured artist.
Following the performance, the artist conducts a
workshop with each of the participating classrooms.
The workshop activities are user-friendly, linked
to the performance, and taught through a modeling
approach, allowing classroom teachers to replicate
or further develop them after the artist has left
the classroom.
Eligibility: Schools or groups
interested in the Artists in the Classroom program
must submit an application. Priority will be given
to groups who may not obtain reservations for an
Educational Performance through the FRIENDS lottery
system due to the high demand. All interested schools
will be considered based on their applications and
according to artists’ availability. |
