The Performance

The play, based on the beloved fable and book by Jean Giono, is a unique blend of comedy and puppetry that tells the inspiring ecologically oriented tale of a human being who saw a need and decided not to ignore it but "to put things right." In this captivating adaptation, a French shepherd sets out with his dog to plant a forest and transform a barren wasteland. As war rages across Europe their young forest comes under threat. This uplifting and unforgettable story shows us the difference one man (and his dog!) can make to the world. Performed by the internationally renowned Puppet State Theatre Co. from Scotland, this expertly constructed play engages all senses by incorporating the scent of lavender, wind, rain, and a lot to think about!

PDW at Cerritos Park East Community Center

In this workshop, participants will explore ways to create a puppet theatre in their classrooms, write stories based on real life experiences, and perform them in collaboration with puppets. While lighthearted, the activities will emphasize the power of theatre to shed light on important topics such as environmental issues and peace. A written curriculum guide will be distributed to facilitate implementation of activities in classrooms.
