Creative Expressions
What: Creative Expressions is the follow-up program to the Educational Performances. To ensure that the arts education experience is well-rounded and adequately assimilated, FAE encourages students to develop their own unique creative abilities by directly participating in the arts once they return to their classrooms.
How: Creative Expressions projects may take the form of a drawing capturing the essence of a performance, a well-articulated letter or essay demonstrating an age-appropriate understanding of what took place on stage, a script for a sequel to a story, a student-produced video, a poem or a meaningful classroom discussion, to name a few. FAE facilitates this process by providing guidance and support for teachers through Professional Development Workshops and written Curriculum Guides.
Recognition: FAE highlights the most outstanding Creative Expressions works at a ceremony that takes place at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Teachers are invited to submit individual student work or classroom projects. Teachers are also encouraged to submit original lesson plans or an account of their Creative Expressions activities in the classroom. Should teachers choose to keep their students’ Creative Expressions projects at school, they may submit a photograph or a written account of the projects. Submissions are considered in both categories of individual and classroom projects – in each grade in mainstream education and special education.
