Disneyland Band

Presented by the Disneyland Resort

Grade 2

February, 07 2012 9:30 AM & 11:30 AM

The Performance

Disneyland Band celebrates the American Band, sharing with second graders popular music from our nation’s history.  The conductor introduces each instrument that makes up the band, while musicians demonstrate the various sounds they create.  Valuable historical facts are communicated in a way that stimulates students’ interest in history. Students also participate in the performance by joining in a very large choir – the entire audience – conducted by Mickey Mouse himself to sing It’s a Small World.  Mickey Mouse’s friends, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy stop by to contribute to the discussion on band music.  This production is as educational as it is enjoyable.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 / 3:45 to 5:30 PM

This Professional Development Workshop will be led by performer and music therapist Kalani. Participants will learn about the history of the Disneyland Band itself and about each instrument featured in the band.  Following this overview, the focus will be on making musical instruments using found objects and scientific facts and working in teams to create music!  In addition, concrete examples of language arts and science integration will be demonstrated. Participants will be able to keep the instruments they make during the workshop.  A written curriculum guide will be distributed to facilitate implementation of activities in the classroom.

This performance is graciously sponsored by Dennis & Marilyn McGorman
