Theater Technology Workshop for Students

How does that work?  How do they make it look so easy?  And who are they?  They are the invisible “magicians” of the stage whose work we appreciate but yet, we don’t really notice because we are caught up in, well… their “magic!”  They are the skilled technicians who allow dancers to be seen, musicians to be heard, scenery to come and go, actors to fly across the stage, and much more.  Presenting a performance of the quality that audience members enjoy at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts requires synchronized and sophisticated work on the part of a large team behind the scenes.

This workshop, led by key members of the unrivaled CCPA technical crew, will introduce participants to various careers in stage production.  It will include a brief tour of the theater, a viewing of a re-configuration of the theater on DVD, demonstrations and hands-on activities in lighting, sound, stage carpentry, and stage management.  A question and answer period will inform participants about important aspects of these careers.

This workshop is designed for students interested in knowing more about theater productions and in learning about exciting careers in the arts other than on stage.

To apply for this workshop, students must be recommended by a teacher.  Teachers may use the form enclosed in the “Application & Forms” section of this handbook.  Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult when attending the workshop.   Priority will be given to high school students.  However, students in grades 6 – 8 are welcome to submit an application and will be admitted if space is available.
