How does that work? How do they make it look so easy? And who are they? They are the invisible “magicians” of the stage whose work we appreciate, but yet, we don’t really notice because we are caught up in, well… their “magic!” They are the skilled technicians who allow dancers to be seen, musicians to be heard, scenery to come and go, actors to fly across the stage, and much more. Presenting a performance of the quality that audience members enjoy at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts requires synchronized and sophisticated work on the part of a large team behind the scenes.
This workshop, led by key members of the unrivaled CCPA technical crew, will introduce participants to various careers in stage production. It will include a brief tour of the theater, a viewing of a re-configuration of the theater on DVD, demonstrations and hands-on activities in lighting, sound, stage carpentry, and stage management. A question and answer period will inform participants about important aspects of these careers.
This PDW is offered as a “bonus” workshop for teachers interested in knowing more about theater, in being able to tell their students about exciting careers in the arts, and in using the knowledge gained in the workshop to enhance their students’ experience at the theater as well as their own school productions. |
